The Hammer feature triggered once during the bonus, turning all reel symbols into wilds for thunder empire pokie an easy win. The bonus round is the highlight, with the multiplier increasing by x1 with each win, boosting payouts. With high volatility and an RTP of 96.55%, the payouts are balanced in size and frequency, though it pays less often than some other high-volatility pokies I tested. Apart from being a visual delight, Power of Thor Megaways offers a highly rewarding payout system with numerous features. You’ve got your regular wilds that substitute in for other symbols, plus a 2x multiplier wild that can straight up double a winning spin’s payout. While a ‘bonus buy’ option is available to instantly activate the feature, I recommend trying the ‘double chance’ as it can prove to be way more rewarding. I landed three scatters after approximately 36 spins, successfully activating the bonus round. To increase the odds of activating this feature, I toggled the ‘double chance’ button, which tweaks the game’s algorithm.
I went with 9 spins and the solid 4x to 7x multiplier range. I got a bit restless and just decided to drop A$90 to buy the bonus game instead of waiting for it to randomly trigger. Like most slots, you’ve got scatters, and hitting three or more is your ticket to the free spins. This high multiplier value increased the win amounts, leading to an eventual return of A$188, a solid profit for the investment. On my first attempt, I was awarded 5 free spins with a pretty big 25x multiplier. This bonus buy feature is unique because it randomly selects both the number of spins and a corresponding multiplier. A Wild symbol substitutes for regular symbols, and landing three or more Scatters triggers the Free Spins bonus game.
The multipliers were what really made the difference to the overall return. The key to the game’s impressive performance is the cascading reels feature. The paytable offers better-than-average returns, though single spins can be unpredictable. You are up for thousands of different winning combinations, free spins, multipliers, and a changing number of active rows mid-game. All Megaways games use a random number generator (RNG) to ensure that the outcome of each spin is entirely random and unbiased.
Why Choose Megaways Over Traditional Slots?
If you’re playing online pokies in Australia for real money either way, choose the category that will decrease your losses the most. Assuming the pokie held to its RTP perfectly and you caught a 100x win on top, the high RTP title returns a profit of A$94. Every platform is assessed against our own standards, and we highlight both strengths and shortcomings, regardless of any commercial relationship. Our editorial team adheres to a strict policy to ensure that our reviews, recommendations, and content remain objective and free from external influence. Plus, you can usually start playing with a small deposit, generally around A$20 or A$30, depending on the casino’s minimum. Some pokies even gave that extra option to buy free spins.
Hitting three scatters can kick off the bonus game, but you’ll want six Bonus or Power symbols, which guarantee at least 12 free spins. The game includes a bonus round with free spins, which I initially struggled to trigger through standard gameplay. These wilds perform their usual function of replacing low-paying symbols, but are upgraded with random multipliers of 2x or 3x, substantially boosting payout sizes. The base game offers the potential for good returns over time, largely thanks to the wild symbols. The first five spins were a bust, but the multipliers eventually started hitting, increasing my winnings up to about A$250, so I ended up with a small gain, despite the bad start to the round. These spins came with potential multipliers anywhere from 2x all the way up to a massive 500x.
A welcome bonus is typically the largest offer you’ll get when you sign up for a new online casino. Use the feature with caution and a strategy that ensures your pocket the big wins and only use it to increase smaller payouts. Sure, it means some payouts are doubles (if you win), but it’s also important to consider the ones you lose, especially the bigger wins. However, if you gamble every win just once, you’ll cut the pokie’s hit rate in half, as you’ll give the other half back to the casino. Both are great, but it’s something to keep in mind when you choose real money pokies in Australia to play. This continues for as long as combinations activate, stacking up your payout without costing you a cent (no need to spin the reels between wins).

Compared to classic 3-reel slots, Megaways games typically feature more complex mechanics, including cascading reels and higher volatility. Make sure the casino is reputable and offers a secure gaming environment. They are usually triggered by landing specific symbols or combinations. Always check the RTP and variance before playing to understand what to expect. Payouts in Megaways pokies can vary widely, depending on the game’s RTP (Return to Player) percentage and the variance of the game. Keep an eye out for special symbols and features like wilds and bonus icons, which can trigger additional features and increase your chances of winning. The cascading reels mechanic also means you could score multiple wins from a single spin.

There is no wrong choice whether you pick a game with cascading reels like Aztec Magic Megaways or one with expanding reels like Odin Infinity Reels Megaways. In case you want to pick a game with the best returns, I sorted the 10 listed Megaways slots based on their RTP value. However, it’s important to note that these games tend to have high volatility, making outcomes unpredictable. So, purely by chance, you could theoretically land 12 Level 4 free spins without paying an extra dime. And to sweeten the deal, after each new reel is added, a multiplier kicks in that just keeps increasing with each subsequent reel. As I said, this game is full of surprises, and sometimes shelling out the cash to buy the bonus round can pay off better than just waiting for those scatters to drop randomly.
Plus, if you hit the ‘Infinity Bonus’ with 12 or more extra reels, you get a huge 888x multiplier on your bet – nice! You can also trigger free spins by landing three or more scatter symbols on the game’s three reels. Odin’s spear, Gungnir, is the top high-value symbol, and get this, whenever it’s part of a winning combo, it can actually activate free spins. For example, 6 spins offered 5x to 8x multipliers, while 15 spins were only 2x to 5x. The expanding wilds, together with the multipliers, bounced the wins, and the total came to about A$43, netting me a A$13 gain. The bonus game awarded multipliers from 2x to 10x with every new Wild and Scatter that appeared. Starting with 14 spins, I collected a few extra re-spins when more scatters appeared.
